Stephen Maguire will join Ronnie O’Sullivan and Judd Trump in the Championship League Snooker Winners’ Group after beating Mark Selby in the Group 3 final on Tuesday evening.

Maguire had been in fine form throughout the group, winning five of his six matches, and continued his superiority into the knockout stage with a win over Ricky Walden to set up a final against Selby.

The Leicester potter raced to a 1-0 lead with a 101 break, his fifth ton of the group, before Maguire moved to a 2-1 advantage.

Selby fought back to tie to match at 2-2 but runs of 44 and 25 saw the Glaswegian to victory and a place in March’s big-money Winners’ Group.

Maguire, who had lived up to his ‘On Fire’ nickname with five centuries in the group including a 139 which saw him take home the £500 high break prize, had seen off Ricky Walden 3-0 in the group semi final. Selby, meanwhile, had triumphed over Michael White by the same scoreline.

Taking place at Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex, Championship League Snooker features seven players with the winner moving forward to the final all-winners group and the bottom two players leaving the competition.

Selby, White, Walden and Williams will be joined in Group 4 by Neil Robertson, Graeme Dott and Ben Woollaston.

The Championship League Snooker event is a venture between Matchroom Sport and Perform where 25 of the game’s elite players compete with all matches broadcast on a host of betting websites.

Each group features seven players with each man playing the other six once in a round-robin basis. Every match is the best of five and the winner gains one point with the loser getting zero.

At the end of the league phase the top four advances to that group’s semi-finals where the two winners meet in the final and the winner advances to the Winners’ Group in March.

The losing finalist, two losing semi-finalists and player finishing fifth move into the next group where they are joined by three new players and the process is repeated.

Group Four commences at 11.00am on Wednesday 27th January. Live scoring can be found at www.worldsnooker.com
