JOE PERRY became the second player to enter the winners group at Championship League Snooker after defeating Judd Trump 3-0 in just 26 minutes in the final match at Crondon Park Golf Club in Essex.
It was a high quality two days in the internet-streamed snooker event as 15 centuries were recorded over 93 frames, including a 147 from Shaun Murphy on Wednesday, the first in the seven year history of the event.
Perry will carry £6,300 into the final group while Trump takes £4,500 forward to Group Three. At the other end of the scale, Barry Hawkins’ £400 winnings in the pounds for frames prize money structure, was a joint lowest since the inaugural CLS in 2008.
“I am really glad to get through and win the group - it was a tough group with strong opposition so it is really good to have topped the group, especially as I came in at late notice as a favour to Matthew Stevens,” said Perry.
“I go on to the Masters next in a good frame of mind. Obviously this doesn’t count towards that but to go there in good form and good frame of mind can only put me in good stead for next week.”
Perry will join Ricky Walden in the final group which takes place from 5-6 March, while Trump, along with Neil Robertson, Shaun Murphy and Mark Davis will return for Group Three on Monday 20th January. They will be joined by new players Graeme Dott, Matthew Stevens and Ryan Day.
The Championship League Snooker event is a venture between Matchroom Sport and Perform where 25 of the game's finest players compete with all matches broadcast on a host of betting websites.
Each group features seven players with each man playing the other six once in a round-robin basis. Every match is the best of five and the winner gains one point with the loser getting zero.
At the end of the league phase the top four advances to that group's semi-finals where the two winners meet in the final and the winner advances to the Winners' Group at the end of March.
The losing finalist, two losing semi-finalists and player finishing fifth move into the next group where they are joined by three new players and the process is repeated.
The winner then goes through to the final group on March 5th & 6th where big money is up for grabs. The two bottom players are eliminated from the competition, while the remaining four move forward to Group Three to be joined by three new players.
