Mark Williams leads BetVictor Championship League Snooker Group 7 after the first day of play at Morningside Arena, Leicester as players battle it out for the final spot in this week’s Winners’ Group.

Three-time World Champion Williams has won three of his four matches so far while a trio of players have two wins each. They include John Higgins, who has won Group 7 in each of the last three seasons and went on to win the tournament in 2017 and 2018.

The Wizard of Wishaw has played three matches, as has Graeme Dott, while Dave Gilbert has played four times. All three players have two points.

Lyu Haotian, making his BetVictor Championship League debut, beat Walden 3-0 for his only win in three games while Robert Milkins registered a win over Haotian but lost to Ricky Walden and Williams.

With just one win from four matches played, Walden is bottom of the table and has a mountain to climb if he is to make it into the top four and tomorrow evening’s play-offs.

BetVictor Championship League Snooker is a venture between Matchroom Sport and Perform where 25 of the game’s elite players compete for their share of a total prize pot of up to £205,000. RASSON BILLIARDS provide the official tables of the tournament.

Each of the seven players faces each other once in the round-robin group stage, after which the top four players in the league table progress to Tuesday evening’s play-offs. The eventual group champion advances to Winners’ Group, which will begin on Wednesday as the winners of the six previous groups return to compete for the 2020 BetVictor Championship League title. All matches are best of five

Group Seven continues at 11am on Tuesday. Live scoring can be found at www.wst.tv. Group fixtures and results and details of how to watch can be found at http://www.championshipleaguesnooker.co.uk/.
